A SUSPICIOUS AFFAIR.
(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. An inquiry was held to-day into the " circumstances connected with tho fire at the Palmerston and Waikouaifi Times office, the enquiry being deemed necessary - on account of current talk. The evidence was to the effect that the proprietor of the paper heard of alleged misconduct bw local photographer, and was t-’' latter suspected him of tollin' parents. " .r'
A youth, who sometimes w photographer, alleged that t invited him to go with him end's the place. - ' Another witness stated, in conbs. with a letter in the paper, that the phS\ grapher had said something to the efl'ecs. 'hat tho way to slop that kind of thing was to set fire to the place. *a The photographer denied that ho bad spoken to these witnesses about sotting fi ro to the place. On tho morning in question ho was at home, and reached the 'scene of i the fire some time after the place had beers ' destroyed, - - . - • }>' The jury returned a vordict that the t place had been wilfully sot an fire, but ' the evidenco was not strong enough tc/ attach the blame to any person, -
