ALLEGED PERJURY
CONSTABLES CHARGED. (Per Press Association.) * Wellington, last night. Charges of perjury against Constables Howley and Gibson oarnt on before the Stipendiary Magistrate to-day. The allegation is that in a police prosecution charging James Kennedy with keeping a brothel, the constables in question swore they saw Kennedy in Wellington on December 266 h and 27th, whereas he was away in Palmerston at the time. Howley was committed for trial. The case against Gibson is proceeding.
Later. —At the Magistrate’s Cou'rt this morning, William Gibson and John Howley, police constables, were charged vpitn having given perjured evidence on February 27tb, during t.he bearing of a charge against James Kennedy of being an idle and disorderly person. The oase against defendants was that they had sworn to having seen Konnedy on certain in Wellington, whereas he was on such occasions in another town. Each defendant was committed for trial, hail being allowed.
