Edwin Gough, aged 50, a painter, foil down the basemont stairs at the British hotel and sustained injuries resulting in his death. BOY DROWNED.
Napier, last night.
A lad of 14, named Albert Smith, only son of Mr E. L. Smith, builder, was drowned whilst bathing in the surf yesterday afternoon. Deceased, although only a poor swimmer, dived through the breakers and swam out, getting into difficulties. A companion named Windus pluokily to his assistance, and narrowly esoaped drowning in a fruitless effort to effect a rescue.
DIED SUDDENLY FROM OLD AGE AND. NEGLECT-. Napier, last night.
An inquest was hold on Saturday touoh, ing the death of John Hawkins, aged 89 who died suddenly. A verdict was returned that death was due to old age and neglect.
r CLIST KILLED THROUGH A COLLISION .WITH A HORSE,Wellington, iast night.
A young man named Sylvan McDonald, whilst cycling down a hill near Island Bay, collided with a horse, and has since died in the hospital.
KILLED BY; PIECE OH ROCK, Taihape, last night.
A mail named Michael Walsh, engaged on the railway constrnction at Tauvangarere, was badly injured on Friday, while blastmg. A piece of rock struck him in the neck, cutting several veins. He died before a doctor arrived. He leaves a widow and family in the South Islaud.
A SUDDEN DEATH. . Auckland, last night. A sudden death took place at Wainku on Sunday morning. Thomas Tiranou, aged about 35 years, wont outside of his father’s residence,, and his mother, on going out shortly after to see where he was, found him lying dead within a few yards of the house, in a pool of blood, he having broken a blood vessel. Deceased had complained of a heavy cold for some time, but was apparently quite strong.
A PUNTER DROWNED. Suva, March 27. Walter Darvalle, at Navua, punter, was drowned off the wharf.
AN OLD MAN CHOKED AT DINNER.
Dunedin, last night. John Mcllroy, an inmate of the Home for the Aged, conducted by Sisters of the Poor, died' suddenly, it is supposed from being choked iby a piece of meat at dinner.
BOATING FATALITY. j Vl4’; Dunedin, last night.
At tbo inquest as to the Btrange death of James Mclvor, aged 24 years, who was drowned-while out with a companion in a small boat on Thursday,’ a verdict of accidental death was returned. It is assumed that the boat was swamped, and that the young men, in attempting to swim ashore, were drowned. The body of McCallum has not yet been recovered.

Inspector Ellison has received a message from Blenheim that a man named ’Percy John Cozens} 21 years of age, accidentally shot himself while out pig hunting' at Okaraio. He died almost immediately after the accident. His parents reside at Okaramio. ■
