LAND COMMISSION.

(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. The Land Commission was engaged today taking evidence in the city. !C,Donald Bsid, sen., formerly head of the Provincial Government and colonial Minibter for Lands, gave evidence at some length. He is a strong freeholder, and cannot conceive any country getting the best out of its land under any other system. Nominated land boards were be3t, as a Minister had a chanoe of putting in really good men. There was far too much reference to Ministers. This was bad for a olient who was not of the “ right color.” He did not think there was likely to be an (aggregation of estates. As to allowing leaseholders to purchase 3t the, original capital value, the Government had the right to tax purchasers afterwards. Evidence was also given by the members of the Land Board,, and afterwards by members of tho School Commission.
