CISBORNE-TE KARAKA RAILWAY.
THE OPENING CEREMONY. A meeting of the Committee of the East Coast Railway League wa3 held yesterday morning at 11 o’clock to consider the position in regard to fixing a date for the opening of the line to Te Karaka. His , Worship the Mayor presided; and there were also present Messrs Rees, DeLautour and Gaudin (secretary). ' Regret was expressed at the nature of I the replies received from Ministers, and I tho opinion was expressed that it would I be hotter to adhere to the original date, I Maroh 30th, for the openiog ceremony. I
The following resolution was adopted, to be sent to the Hon. Jas. Carroll: 11 That I the League takes the necessary steps to open tho. Karaka railway on Maroh 30th. j That a telegram be sent to Mr Carroll regretting that the Governor and most of the. Ministers oould not be present, and ur gfag Mr Carroll to do his best to assure I the attendance, of Mr Hall-Jones ; further, I that Mr Carroll be requested to make all I arrangements for the free running of the I trains on the 30th, and that if possible an I extra engine and waggons be supplied.” I
MR CARROLL SUGGESTS POSTP ONE MEN T.
I Tho Secretary of the League' reoeived the following telegram, sent from Rotorua at noon yesterday, from Mr Carroll : “ Have communicated with Ministers re opening lino to Te Karaka. I think that the first week after the 31st inst. would bo a convenient time.”
TELEGRAM FROM MR HALL-JONES
[ Last evening Mr W. Gaudin received the following telegram from Mr HallJones : —" Would very much like to be present, but cannot 3ay definitely. I advise you to adhero to the date most suitable to yourselves. If unable to bo present at the opening, I intend visiting Gisborne about the end of April or the beginning of May.”
