ST. PATRICK'S SOCIAL.

St. Patrick’s sooial has become one of the most successful and popular of local sooial functions, and increases in favor each succeeding year. Last evening the spacious floor of His Majesty’s proved all too small for- the number of dancers present. The floor was in splendid order for dancing, and was very favorably commented od. The largo utage of the theatre was tastefully arranged as a drawing room, tho fine scenery .making a striking background to the many happy people moving from the dance room to the stage, and from tho stage to the supper room. Here a sumptuous repast was provided by the members of the committee, and the tables wore beautifully laid out. The attendance constitutes a -record for His Majesty’s, and was far in excess of the committee’s I

anticipations. The printed programmes proved insufficient, and 100 more had to be obtained to meet the demand. The music was supplied by Miss Niell (piano) and Mr Liohtwark (violin), and needless to say gave every satisfaction. Warm praise is due to the assiduous secretary, Miss McCabe, and the energetio committee of workers, among whom the following may be mentioned:—Mesdames F. Martin, J. Martin, Rosßbotham, Finn, Cessans, Jennings, Maher, H. Miller, Lange, and Webb, and Misses Eager, Spithill, Buohanan (2), Doherty, Pi Maynard, Lowney. The extras were played by Misses Doherty, Buohanan, Lang and Mr j Maxwell. The M.C.’s were Messrs W. Webb and H. Miller.- Mr G. Maher had oharge of the : door, and M. H. Rowland presided at the tioket office.

The dance broke up shortly after two, there being fully eighty oouples on the floor at the last dance. Before midnight there must have been over 180 couples on the floor. An idea can be formed of the number present by the fact that the supper tables, whioh . seat 100 people, were filled four times. The committee are to be congratulated upon the suooess of the social, which must be very gratifying to the secretary and all who worked so hard
