(Per Press ‘Association.) . Masterton, last night. )At a meeting of tho Hospital trustees to-day a deputation presented a petition signed by upwards.of 780 residents, asking that Mr Butement's services as medical officer at the hospital be retained. After discussion the following resolution was carried ;—“ That tho trustees regret that 6h® resolution passed at the last,meeting failed to assign any reason for terminating Dr Butement’s services, and that a copy of. the resolution be Bent to Dr Butement, ■fwitb fall rea&ODs for his dismissal.'’ Mr Hogg proposed the following as an amendment, but it was avontually carried as a separate motion : —“ That the petitioners . jb'e informed that the sole reason for 'the '-germinating of the services of the present i fenedical officer was that the other medical Piae n in tho town had declined to co-operate with him, and. form an honorary staff,and not because'there was any want of oonhd«jpee in the skill and ability of Dr Butejnent.”
