R. Arnst, of New Zealand, won his heat in tho Sydney Thousand. The semi-finals will bo run on Wednesday. The five mile soratch race resulted : Ellegaard 1, Lawson 2, McFarland 3. Ellegaard won by a' few inohes, the time beiog 10.40 4-5, a world’s record.
Melbourne, March ; l2. Arrived, the Moeraki. A fire is raging in the 1850 ft level of tbo Oarhole mine in a long gully. A large quantity of old timber is ablaze. The fire drove the miners out of the Oarhole and adjoining Unity mine.
