Mr Reid, chief officer of the Talune, has been'transferred to a similar position on the Mokoia, and Mr Nicholson, of the latter vessel, has been transferred to the Talune. Amongst the passengers by the B.M.S. Oceana, which has arrived at Sydney from London, are Lord and Lady Enniemore, who joined the ship at Port Said. Those interested in the volunteer movement will regret to hear that Captain Warren has resigned his position as captain of the Gisborne Rifles, which position he has held 6ince the formation of the corps: Captain Warren has seen upwards of 40 years’ service as a volunteer, and his loss will be severely felt by the Bifles. A very pleasant evening was spent at I the post office club rooms last evening by the ma'e members of the Post and Telegraph Departments, the gathering being in honor of the marriage of Mr O, Sigley and Miss Ryland, both of tho telegraphic staff, which 'is to take place to dayy. Speeobes of a congratuI latory nature were made, and a, number of I toasts were duly honored. The members I of the staff yesterday presented Mr Sigley and Miss Ryland with a handsome silver I kettle and eruet stand, . The presentation j was made by the Chief Postmaster, Mr I Benner, who conveyed the best wishes of I the staff for the recipients’ future happi? I ness, M<-Sigley suitably responded. One of the arrivals in Wellington by the sti amer Athenic, from Capetown, last wiek, was Mr James Morton, chairman of the Natal Land Board, a body appointed under an Act passed by' the Natal jLegislature last session. Being on a visit to this colony with bis wife and family, he intends to make use of the occasion by studying the conditions of our system of closer settlement of land, and particularly our dairying methods. v . At St. Andrew’s Churoh yesterday afternoon the marriage of Harry Bernard Taylor, of Whataup.oko, to Miss Margaret Jessie McLeod, daughter of Mr. D. O. McLeod, was solemnised, the service being conducted by tho Rev J. G. Paterson in the presence of a large gathering of friends. Miss Catherine McLeod was bridesmaid, whilst Mr Bees Jones officiated as beßt man.

There was a large gathering at St. Andrew’s Church'yesterday afternoon on the I occasion of the marriage of Mr Francis A. Farmer, second son of Mr John Farmer,of Ormond, to Miss Eveline Jane Armonr, eldest daughter of Mr W. Armour. The sorvice was conducted by the Rev J. G. Paterson. The bride was charmingly [ attired in white Surah silk, trimmed with white. The bridesmaids were Misses Wallaoe and M. Armour, the former being attired in white muslin trimmed with silk lace and insertion, whilst Mies' Armour wore white silk trimmed with satin. Both bridesmaids wore chiffon hats. The bridegroom was attended by Messrs H. Farmer and G. Gratz. The groom’s present to the bride was a gold necklet with greenstone heart, and to the bridesmaids pretty gold brooohes.
