AUSTRALIANS Y. OTAGO.

(Per Press Association.) Dunodin, last night. Tho orickot match Australians v. Otago was concluded yesterday, tho visitors winning by an innings and 273 runs. The weather was beautifully fine, and there was a really good attendance, although tho local association is scarcely likely to clear tho guarantee and expenses by £3O or so. The Australians, with six for 201, continued their innings. Kelly and Cotter showed attractive batting of a kind, but some of Gehrs’ strokes were poor. The total was taken to 304, tho additional scores being: Gehrs (notout) 45, Armstrong 12, Kelly 28, Cotter 28, Howell 0, extras 6. Fisher took three for 74, Shacklook five for 124, Austin ono for 17. The display of the local men was again indifferent, the exceptions being Graham and Austin. The total only reached 76. Graham soored a lively 28, including three fours, and Austin 14, Baker 9, Kilgour 7, Siedberg and Howden 3 each, and Cramond 2, throe others not scoring ; the extras totalled 10. Noble took no wickets for 20, Cotter three for 15, Hopkins four for 18, Armstrong three for 10. The visitors then gave an exhibition of batting, Trumper, Gregory, Hill, and Duff hatting to the bowling of Laver and Howell.

The first trial match was played at Taruheru last Saturday to enable the seleotors to the representative eleven to play against Hawke’s Bay on the 27th inst. The B team, batting first, were disposed of for 60 runs (H. Sharp 19, Golding 11). The A team made 128, W. Gibson batting right through the innings for 57 (not out). Hallamore (26), Boymond (15), and Hodge (12) also batted well. H. Sharp performed best with the ball, securing three wickets for 19 runs. Hodgkinson and Sheridan proved expensive, having 25 and 26 runs respectively scored off their last four overs. Tho latter bowled 16 overs for 52 runs, and why he was asked to relieve Sedon, who had bowled 3 overs for 5 runs, was difficult to understand. The following are the soores :
