At a sitting of the Arbitration Court j representatives of the Auckland Cabmen’s I Union intimated that the dispute between I the masters and men, referred to the I Court for hearing, had been withdrawn. I The Coroner (Mr Gresham) held an I inquest at Avondale Asylum on a male I patient. Evidence was given by Dr H. I Barraolough to the effect that a post" | mortem examination disclosed that death | was due to typhoid fever. . He attributed j the presence of typhoid to the fact that a blockage had taken place in a drain, a | defect which had been remedied. The I jury brought in a verdict of death from I typhoid fever, and added the following I rider:—“The jury request the Coroner to I convey to the Inspector of Public Works I their regret that at public institutions like I the Avondale Asylum suoh a disease ae> I typhoid should have been allowed to I germinate in consequence of the careless blockage of a drain.” I
