THE ROAD RACE.

A big and enthußiastio crowd, including tho State Governor (who congratulated the contestants), assembled to witness the finish of the motor contests. The first to arrive was Stevens, who covered the last stage of 100 miles in 3 hours 24 minues, followed by O. B. Kellow, of Viotoria, with a seven horse powpr Talbot car, in 4.14 ; Maillard, New South Wales, iu a horse power Brazier car, in 3.27. The first motor oyoles were ridden by Withers and James, of Victoria, who came in 81 and 33 minutes respectively behind Stevena,whose average time for the whole journey was 24 miles. The maximum points, 2500 according to the conditions of the contest, were secured in various sections by Stevens, Ross and Torrent (in heavy cars); Craven, Coleman and Hall (light cars), James and Gard (motor cycles), all being Victorians. A contest to enable a final decision from Melbourne to Ballarat will be arranged.
