’Wellington, last night. r The reoomrnendationß of the Representation Commissioners for tho divia'on of Wellington City into'three electorates in accordance with the City Single Electorate Aot are in the Government’s hands, and the new boundaries will be gazetted at once. Wellington North has a population of. 11,925. Wellington Central 11,914, Wellington East 11,996. The Premier will open tho Feilding Show on Wednesday. He will spend Thursday in the Manawatu district,, returning to Wellington on Thursday night or Friday morning. The estate of Frederick William Robjohns, of Napier, lodged for probate, amounts to £55,777. Two Chinamen at Palmerston North were charged with offences under the Opium Aot. One was fined £2O, and the secend, against whom there wero two oharges, £3O in all. The Magistralc said he would communicate with the Department, urging a reduction of the latter amount.
David Berrie, cook of the steamer Manoroa, charged with assaulting a seaman named William Matthews with a meat cleaver, was committed to trial. Considerable dissatisfaction exists among tramway employees regarding the reoent appointment of a ticket inspector as chief traffic inspector, and there , are "rumors that a tramway strike is 1 possible Last week a City Councillor and a motorman waited on tho town clerk and the alter placed the men’s case before the olerk. He declared the men neither could nor would work under the inspector. The clerk says tho men’s, representative went bo far as to make statements which, could only be interpreted as a threat to strike. The olerk replied that the appointment iD question was only temporary, and advised that the grievance bo put- in writing. The men accordingly sent a petition to the Council asking for the dismissal of the unpopular officer, and:tbe petition was referred tOjth’e, Tramways. Committee, with the result that an enquiry will be held into tho matter to morrow.
