(Per Press Association.) Thames, last night.

John Lupton was injured severely at Komata Reefs mine by a premature explosion. Ho had his face and head knocked about. It was thought at first that his eyesight was gone, but it iB hoped this will be saved. Lupton had an almost miraculous escape from death. The Thames Drainage Board has taken the Government pumping plant, valuod at £IOO,OOO, for throe months’ trial. Steam is up, and tho druinage of the doep levels will commnooe forthwith. Thames has in,course of construction a public library which will cost £2OOO, swimming baths to cost £I3OO, a hew high school to cost £IOO, and a technical college to cost £BCO, the letter to be fully equipped.
