FISK JUBILEE SINGERS

Another large audience last night greeted this highly musical combination, when an entire change of programme was rendered. By request ‘ yteal away to Jesus’ opened the concert. This item was suDg only as the Jubilee Singers oan sing it. Their sweet low notes made one imagine what the melodious strains of an angelic choir would be like. In response to an imperative encore ‘ The Lord’s Prayer’ was sung with much sympathetic feeliDg. The choruses, ‘ Tis Jordan’s River,’ ‘ Shun old Satan,’ and the several other numbers proved quite a revelation in concerted music, to the large audience. The singers are excellent in the-pianissimo passages, phrasing and attacks. One of gems of the evening was ‘ The Soldier's Farewell,’ rendered by the male quartette party, whose voices are so . perfectly balanced that nothing less than a musioal triumph was achieved. . In response to an inevitable encore the humorous quartette saDg in an original and happy manner 1 Bingo,’ which was received with much j enthusiasm. Mr Harry C. Newton is the possessor of a beautifully rich bass voice, which he displayed most intelligently in I his solo, ‘ Out on tho Deep,' wbioh was | a musical treat and well merited the attentive hearing received, This gentleman has tho gift of knowing how to interpret his songs in order that his auditors can appreciate tho composer’s meaning. Miss Beatric Morcer sang with much artistic feeliDg the popular soDg, 1 Absent,’ which gave this lady scope to display her rich contralto noles. In the second half Mr Clarence Tisdale, the tenor of the Singers, sang with exquisite taste, ‘ There’s nobody just like You.’ This gentleman’s teDor voice is one of the most refined and pleasing we have beard in Gisborne for a long time past. In response to a double recall he favored the audionee with 1 My heart has Sighed,’ which likewise received artistic treatment. Mr B. H. Collins sings coon songs in a moat refined mannor, and delighted all present by his rendI ering of 1 Melinda,’ the chorus being sung in full harmony by the Singers. In response to a vociferous encore be sang with excellent effect a charming little coon song, • O Ma Honey.' An excellent musical programme was terminated by the Singers rendering the chorus • Hard Trials’ in good stylo. To night the Jubilee Singers give their forewell concert in Gisborne, when j

the public are offered the privilege of choosing the programme by sending in—before the concert begins—any selected song or chorus from the repertoire of the Company. Those who have not hoard the Singers, and have any musical taste whatever, should not foil to bear to night’s con- | cert. A beautiful rich toned Bohn piano, I kindly lent by Mr P. B. Lomax, manager of the Dresden Piano Company, is being j qsed by the Company*
