At the Supreme Court .to-day Alexander, McKee wasi found guilty of fraud and theft at Eketahuna, and Was admitted to probation for 12 months, on condition that he paid the value of .the articles stolen and. also the amount of the expenses incurred by,.the .Crown in [the prosecution, CHRISTCHURCH, last night. At the Supreme Court, Andrew. Gallagher was discharged on a charge of breaking and entering. Amy, Bock, for forgery and uttering, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment:. Leonard Harrison was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment for indecent assault. William Herbert Hayes was convicted of assaulting Edward PXanc.ock with intent to, rob,, and
Was sentenced to two years’ 1 imprisonment, William Hastings, for theft from a dwelling, was sentenced to six months’ imp jisonmen't.
Tlie .visiting prelates at the Catholic festival, accompanied by a large, number of visiting priesits, today visited .the Mount Magdala. 'Dr W. Bv Gow, oE the Mount iView Hospital* Wellington, has been appointed to. succeed Dr Levinge, in charge of the Sunuysido 'Asylum. Dr Crosby* at present assisting at Sunnyside, will probably be given charge of the Mount View Hospital. The Government has decided to'cali tenders for the construction of the Makatuko viaduct for- the North Island Main Trunk railway, about midway on the unqompl eted portion of line., ,The viaduct, it is considered,, Will probably be the mid-way point on the line as, at present standing, (and when it is completed it is expected that the line will bo ready, from ■both ends, and that through connection will be established. Tendera will he called outside the colony ns well as witbin its confines.
