FISK JUBILEE SINGERS.

This popular band of musical artists will open for three nights’ season at His Majesty’s Theatre to-night. The Jublilee Songs, with tbeir-bSautTful harmony and poetry, have bo'en unable to find any solution of the mystery surrounding the interpretation of their musical phrases. Musicians have.tried to compose their music, but only with this result—that the-same effect cannot be produced as is shown by the singers, being the outcome of those untutored minds of slavery days. .. YY--SS

They (the Jubilee Songs) are the folk lore ;of these people; which found their origin in spontaneous outbursts of religious fervor, feelings of despondency of joy, all of which were expressed in song.. Their feelings can very well be defined by such x songs as “ Steal Away,” “ Swing Low - Sweet Chariot,” “ Great Camp Meeting,” and “ Brother Michael,” oach displaying different emotions. “ Steal Away ” giving evidence that, notwithstanding all obstacles, they were williog to make any sacrifices to attend their religions meetings, which were forbidden. “ Swing Low Street Chariot ” showed that some sufferings caused by their cruei surroundings made them feol quite willing to give up life, and they supplicated the heavenly chariot to swing low and carry them home. “ Great Camp Meeting ” gives vent to the ides that by constant application to meetings here they would meet at jrthe great camp meeting in heaven, and so on, each song having a peculiar meaning. • That they have always been attractive is evident from the fact that the Jubilee Singers land their tonga ate words throughout the civilised world. , The plan of reserved seats is now open et Miller’s. Prices 3s, 2s, and Is, with no extra charge for booking. \
