Tho statement that negotiations havo been resumed with the Orient Company has not transpired hero. The s oublo announcement may bo based on tho fact that Kenneth Anderson, deputy chairman of tho Orient Company, has arrived at Melbourne; whore ho had a conversation with tho Postmaster General. Hobart, Fob 10. Sir Georgo Turner ha 3 entirely receded from original scheme of hypothecating tho gross railway rovenuo if,the Commonwealth took over tho States’ debts. Ho now asks tho States to pass a measure making interest on tho dobts a first charge on their consolidated revenues in order to make up tho diil'oronco botweon the throo quarters of customs and the amount required for interest payments. Sir George Turner is also willing to ask Parliament to mßko the,Braddou clause perpetual, or extend it' fifty years with a sinking fund of ono per cent to extinguish the debt.
