AUCKLAND HARBOR BOARD.
MATTER OF REPRESENTATION, £Per Press Association.)
Auckland, last night.
A matter in connection with the approaching Harbor Board elections was raised at a meeting of the Board by Mr W. J. W. Philson. He said he thought it very undesirable that the Government should appoint members of Parliament to the Board, and he moved that a telegram be sent to the Premier, requesting that the Government should not appoint members of the House as its representatives. In oonneotion-'witb the coming election. .The argument had been used, he said, that members of the Board, who were also members of Parliament, could thereby do a great deal for tho‘Board, but he thought that members of Parliament could do just as much good for them without being also members of the Board. It was not to the interests of the Board that two of its members should be absent from Auckland for four or five months in the year, .and it was on this account that he moved. Ab a consequence of the present policy the services of a valuable man Slight be lost inßho deliberations of the Board. " Members ; gonerally agreed with Mr Philson’a remarks, and the motion was carried unanimously. ' .
