Matawhero stook sales to-day. The Fire Brigade moot this evening for inspection of now dross uniforms. Fitz Gerald’s Circus opens to-morrow evening for a season of three nights. An inquiry into the origin of the Gisborne School fire will bo held before Mr W. A. Barton at 2.15 this afternoon. • Miss Ivoy will hold a cookery class for school toacherß on Saturday nest, at 11 am.
Messrs Williams and Kettle will hold a sale of oil and pastel paintings by the woll-kuown artist, J. D. Parrott, on Saturday nest. The piotures are now on view. On race days, as usual, the Trocadero will servo luncheen at 11 a.m. ; in. the evening a substantial hot tea will be supplied from 5 to 7, and Buppers as usual.
At the Police Court yesterday morning Joseph Geddas was fined 10s, costs 2s, for drunkenness. ■ He was slbo convicted of using obscene language, and was sentenced to six months at Napier gaol. The following team will represent the Gisborne Criokot Club against Union on the Viotoria Domain to-morrow afternoon : Doyle (2), Stovonß, Featon, Kelly, Gibson (2), llbert, Witty, Bright, Brooking ; emergencies, Koro, File, Buscke. Amongst the 22 players requested by the Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association to go into practice in view of the representative orickot match with Auckland are Hallamore and JRenshaw (United), Torkington (Taruheru), J. Gibson (Gisborne), and Ludbrook (Tuparoa). The catalogue of oil pointings, pastels and other high,class works of art, from the brushes of Mr J. D. Perrett and other well known artists, comprises over 60 pictures, and already a large number of lovers of art have paid a visit to the Mart, Lowe-street, where they ore now on view. An invitation is extended to all interested to vißit the rooms,, which have quite the aspect of an- art gallery. The box plan for “ Facing the Foe ” is now open at Miller’s, where day sales will bB made. Patrons wishing to secure seats should book early, as the plan is rapidly filling up. Redstone’s bus will convoy patrons to and from the theatre. An address by Mr J. Whinray to the Harbor Board ratepayers and electors appears in this issue. Mr Whinray has done good work on the Harbor Board, and is well deserving Qf the continued confidence of the electors.
On Saturday nest, at 2.30 p.m., Mr G. Hogben, Inspector-General of Schools, will deliver' a lecture on the subjeot of “ Eural Technical Education.” Mr O. A. DoLautour will preside, and there should be a large attendance. Amongst the Education Board scholarships allotted are the following Junior national scholarships : James Marshall, Matawhero; George Redpath, Baukaraa. Junior scholarships: Susan Marshall, Matawhero; Charles Oogar, Gisborne. Providing funds allow, John Hogg, of Gisborne, is first on tho list outside those already allottod. A gas-light display of the splondid collection of pointings of Mr J. ■ D. Perret and other well known artists will be held at Messrs Williams and Kettle’s Auction Mart this oveniog at 7.30. , Tho paintings have all been hung, and the inferior of the Mart has been transformed into an Art Gallery, containing paintings by the best New Zealand artists. A large number will doubtless visit tbs Mart this evening andinspeot the pictures. Mr H. E. Crearo, ohemist, of Auckland, is making a short stay in Gisborne, in the interests of several of his well-known lines, the most ' prominent, amongst which are Cinderella Ballroom, floor polish, and Certoff toothache powders ; the last-men-tioned lino is a complete revolution in the way of toothaoho oureH, being taken internally and thereby making a permanent cure, and we are sure once the remedy gets* the recognition it merits all looal applications will be a thing of the past. All who have used Certos apeak very highly in its favor, for the groat feature is that there is no burning of the gums-and surrounding tissue as is the case when liquid is applied to the tooth. We recommend all who are sufferers of this distressing complaint to invest one shilling at any of the chemists and stores in and around Gisborne and prove it for themselves.
