BOATING DISASTER.
THREE PEOPLE PERISH.

Russell, last night. A boat containing six people capsized in tho harbor yesterday afternoon. Three were drowned, and three resoued by a Maori who was passing in a boat. Those drowned are Mrs Marshall and Mr Onlley and daughter. The rescued are Messrs Goodhue (2) and Doel. They all belong to Kawakawa.
Auckland, last night. Particulars of the Russell fatality show that Meager’s boat, containing Mrs Bertha Marshall (wife of Mr Geo. Marshall, publican), Mr John Cuiley (of the Bay of Islands coal mine), his daughter (Miss Cissey Cullcy), and Messrs Frederick and Gilbert Goodue and Enoch (of Taumero), capsized in a squall in the bay at a point between Brampton Buoy and Tapeka Point. Mrs Marshall, and Mr and Miss Cuiley were drowned before assistance j could reach them. Three other occupants of tbo boat were rescued by a party of Maoris who happened to be in the vicinity. Another boat found Mrs Marshall’s body, I which was the only one recovered.
Tho survivors of the Russell fatality were three hours in the water before they were rescued.
