(Per Press 'Association.) Wellington, last night. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London, 4th:—The mutton market is very dull. River Plate mutton is in large supply, and is being strongly pushed for sale, thereby affecting New Zealand sales. The average price to-day of Canterbury mntton is 4 5 8d per lb; light weight, which is Bcaroe ;4d for heavy weight. For Dunedin, Southland and Wellington Meat Export Company’s mutton 4VI-8d per lb, nominal; for other North Island mutton,' 3£dperlb; for Australian, 3 1-8 d ; River Plate, 3j-cl, The market closed' weak. The lamb market is quiet, New Zealand new season’s realising 6£d. Australian lamb is of very mixed quality. Tho average price to-day of Australian lamb is 4£d to sd. The beef market remains very flat. There is poor demand. Tho average price to-day for hindqnarters of New Zealand beef is 3 l-8d per lb, forequarters 2fd. The batter market is firm, and there is a good demand. Prospeots are favorable. The average price of New Zealand choicest butter to-day is 103 s per owt, Danish 108 s. The cheese market is steady. The average price of finest New Zealand cheese today is 523 per cwt; There is a better demand for hemp. The market is firmer. The average price of New Zealand hemp, good, fair Wellington grade, on spot, today is £2l per ton, ditto, for distant deliveries. The cocksfoot seed market is steady at last quotations. Wool: Tho supply meets tho demand for immediate requirements, and prices are declining for medium and coarse crossbreds of all grades. The estimated value of fine crossbreds of all grades is lid to Is j 2d, medium crossbreds (all grades) lOd to ll£d, coarse crossbreds (all grades), 9d to 10£d, superior merinos to Is 2d, medium lOd to ll£d, inferior 7£d to 9Jd.
