TROOPERS’ MEMORIAL.

(Par Press Association.) Oamaru, last night. His Excellency the Governor, accompanied by Sir .T. G. Ward and the Hon. T. Y, Duncan, arrived in town to-day to unveil the memorial to the local troopers who fell in South Africa. There was a very large attendance of the public and volunteers, and the day was beautifully fine. The memorial, which cost £ISOO, is erected in the main street, and is a very imposing structure. Short speeches were made by His Excellency, Sir J. G. Ward, the Hon. T. Y. Duncan, the Mayor, and the Chairman of the County Counoil. In the afternoon a garden party was held, at which the South Island Cadet Shield •was presented to the winners, the North School Cadets.

His Excellency and party left for Ohrit'tohurch in the evening.
