SWIMMING CARNIVAL.

The entries for the events in the Trinity Young Men’s swimming sports closed at Mr Miller's lost evening, and the large number of competitors that have been received must bo very gratifying to the promoters of the club. The contestants hail from all parts of the district, and include one or two record holders. In the 100yds open handicap there is a field of 18 competitors, and a splendid race should be witnessed. An interesting event has been arranged in a race for surf boats, for which a £5 trophy has been donated. Three entries have been received for this event—the Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ JF.M. Company, Kennedy and Evans, and the pilot boat. The coarse will bo to the end of the breakwater and back to the Taruheru bridge. It was decided to make the sohool events post entries. The following is a list of the races, with the number of entries received :—Open maiden race, 75yds, 11 entries; schoolboys’ raoe (under 12), 35yds, 7 entries; club handicap, 75yds (open to members onl y)i 11 entries : 100yds handicap (open), 18 entries ; school championships, 50yds, 7 entries ; long dive, 9 entries ; neat hoador, 8 entries; club championship (open to members only), 100yds, 6 entries ; barrel race, 11 entries ; relay race, 5 teams; greasy boom, 13 ontries ; four-oared outrigger race, 4 crews, Gisborne, Poverty Bay, and two crews from the Trinity Club; boys under 10, 4 entries. In consequence of the largo entries the handicaps will not be declared until the morning of the Carnival. Tho Committee notify that there will bo no charge in connection with those attending the sports, which are absolutely free. The Swimming Sports and Aquatic Carnival will be a formal opening of the Trinity Young Men’s Club, and will mark an epoch in tbe history of aquatic events i in Poverty Bay,
