LONDON WOOL SALES. By ; Electric Telegraph—Per Press Association-Copyright. London, Jan, 26. The following wool olip? have bean sold : Ngatapa llfd, Teviotdale la Eight thousand bales of South Australian wheat, loading, and 13,000 and 8500 of Australian January to February shipments have been sold at 32s 9d.
Later.—There is a good demand for merinos. Fine crossbreds and coarse are a ponny lowor than at the opening of the sales. Per Press Association. Wellington, last night. The Department of Industries and Commerce has . received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, London, dated the 26th : The wool sales are proceeding with great animation, fine wools having most attention. Since the opening of the sales medium and coarse wools have declined lid per lb. The following are average prices : Fine crossbreds Is o£d, medium ditto llj-d, coarse ditto 10Jd, superior merino Is Old, medium ditto lid, inferior ditto 9Jd. SALE AT, MATAWHERO YARDS.
There was fine weather for the stock sales on Thursday, and a large attendance of buyers. Messrs Common, Shelton and 00. and Dalgety and Co. held their sale at 10,80 a.m. in their now yards. There was a good entry of sheep, despite the fact that several advertised lines failed to come forward. The bidding was animated, and all • good lines were eagerly competed for.
Sheqp: About 2000 wore yarded, the quality being good. Although sevoral pens were passed at the commencement of the sale, the yard was cleared of all Btook, the following prices being-obtained—A fine pen of Shropshire rams 2Jgns, 314 two and four-tooth store wethers 14s 6d, forward two-tooth wethers 15s 3d, forward wethers 16s 3d.
Gnttle : There was a distinct drop in the prices of cattle yesterday, this faot being attributable, no doubt, to the largo mils ber of catrlo coming through, 'and tho fall in prices in Hawke’s Bay making buyers 'hold off. Tho following prices were rea. lised—calves 35s 6d, yearling: steers L2 19s, 18-month steers L 3 10s to L 3 15s, 21 young steers L 3 16s 6d, 5 forward steers L 4 10s, beef bullooks from L 5 10s to L 5 14b. One boifer brought L 3 7s, and one springing oow L 4 17s.
.Messrs Williams and Kettlo and tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company held their sale at 11.30.' Sheep—About 6000 were yarded and were all disposed of under the hammer. There was a largo yarding of store sheep, whiob were in keen demand, but the bidding for fat sheep was not so brisk as usual. The following were the prices : 80 cull ewes 6s, 51 ewes (poor) 8s Bd, 85 six and eight tooth ewes 6s 7d, 39 small lambs 6s Id, 138 lambs 8s 3d, 134 shorn lambs Bs, 102 lambs (poor) 6s 6d,107 ewes (poor) 9s, 400 ewes (from Nubaka) 9s 2d, 123 Shropshire cross lambs 9s 7d, 215 lambs 10s Id, 66 eweß in poor condition 10s, 111 Romney croHS ewes 10s 7d, 41 Southdown lambs 10s Bd, 315 full mouth ewes 10s 6d, 49 lambs (good line) 11s, 123 fat lambs lls 6d, 330 full month ewes 12s Id, 125 4 and 5 tooth ewes 12s, 109 four, six, and eight-tooth ewos 12s, 82 fresh full-mouth ewes 12s 3d, 119 fat and forward ewes 12s 6d, 31 forward ewes 12s 9d, 39 two-tooth wethers 13s 2d, 50 fat ewes 13s 7d, 64 two and four-tooth ewes 13a 9d, 1202 four and five-tooth ewes from Tokomaru station 13s 10d, 107 two-tooth mixed ewes 13s lid, 65 fat sheep 14s, 122 fat and forward ewos 14s, 82 fat owes lls 3d, 44 fat and forward wsthors 14s lid, 200 fat and forward four-tooth wethers 15s, 877 fat wethers 15s sd, 149 forward wethers 16s 7d, 85 fat ewes 16s, -46 fat wethers 16s 6d.
Cattle: There was a good yarding of about 600 head, consisting chiefly of steers and heifers. The sale of this class of stock was very dragging, and laßt week’s prices were not maintained.
