AUSTRALIAN MATCHES, Per Press Association. Christchurch, last night. At the request of Mr F. C. Raphael, secretary of the Now Zealand Oriekot Council, Mr T. E. Taylor, M.H.R., recently communicated with Sir Joseph Ward with a view to arranging for special train facilities to enable country visitors to witness the matches to be played in the centres of the colony by tho Australian eleven. A reply has been received to the effect that the Minister will do all ho can in tho desired direction. UNION v. COMMON, SHELTON & CO. Union had a rather easy victory over Common, Shelton and Co yesterday afternoon, winning by 117 runs. Union batted first and put up 142, Lang being responsible for 50. Delaney batted weii for 21, and Newton 16, Tattersall 10, and M. and P. Sheridan 9 each also showed good form. W. Gibson secured 9 wickets for 65 runs. The fielding of CornmoD, Shelton and Co was rather indifferent, with the exception |of Pasloy at point, whose fielding was 1 brilliant and culled forth repeated applause. On going to the wickets Common, Shelton and Co were unable to make any stand against the bowling of Tattersall and W. Sheridan, and wore all disposed of for the small total of 27 runs.
