i Auckland, last night, i The Education Board this morning received a final reply from the Secretary for Education to tho Board’s ■ request for a grant for building a training college for teachers in Auckland. The reply stated that the Minister regretted that in the absence of an appropriation by Parliament the matter would havo to be postponed for the present. The Chairman said it looked as though the Board would have to abandon the establishment of a training college till funds were available for a suitable building. Mr Hobbs favored immediate action with such buildings as they had available. Mr Parr advocated the' utilisation of tho Wellesley street school as a training college till such time as better buildingß wore available. Ha moved that a sub-committeo should go into the matter of establishing b training college forthwith. The Chief Inspector suggested immediate action on the following lines • (1) Making Wellesley street school* a normal school that will form an integr. 1 part of the training college ; (2) plaeir n Wellesley street school under the direct control of the Board ; (3) advertising in New Zealand and the Australian colonies for a director of the training college ; giving the present staff of Wellesley street school three months' notice of termination - of their engagements as members of that * staff. Mr Patr’a motion was carried.
