CHARGED WITH THEFT.

(Per Press Association.) Nelson, last night. For Borne time past a rumor has been persistently in circulation regarding the Golden Bay mine manager. It is now learnt that a warrant has been issued for tho arrest of Frank Johnston, manager of tho Golden blocks Company, West Wanganui, an English concern near Coliingwood. Johnston is obarged with the theft of 90oz of gold, valued at £350. The circumstances alleged are that while at Wellington before Christmas accused went to tho banks and a jeweller's shop endeavoring to sell gold. While he was at tho latter tho police were communioated with. An explanation then made by accused was reportod as considered satisfactory by representatives of the company, being that the manager was trying to get a better price for the gold, and ho returned to employment, where he now is. The polios, howovor, have taken action. There are rumors that a far larger amount than named is involved.
