BATTLESHIP FUND.
(Per Press Assocfatlon.) Timaru, last night. At a meeting of the Battleship New Zealand Fund Committee to-day the Mayor reported there was L7lO in hand and L 25 more promised by the Government- The Children's Pence Fund for the present to ship amounts to about L 430 from 700 schools, and the adults’ fund for gnnnery prizes (the balance). It is much smaller than was hoped for. After reading the correspondence from Lord Ranfurly on suitable presents as suggested by the presents to H.M.3. Kent, it was roaolved to procure from Children’s Fund a 1601 b. bell (probably metal, silver-plated and inscribed) forX6o, gunnery shield for Ll5O, album for records for Llo,silk ensign for L3O. The committee attach much im portance to the gunnery prizos and will omit a piece of plate and hops to invest L6OO for cash prizes. The question of pictures of ship for the schools was postponed for the present for farther inquiries, quotations from home being quite beyond their means.
