UTILITY OF POULTRY.
Christchurch, Monday. The Ijoard of governors and directors of the Agricultural College were waited upon. 1 by a deputation from the committee api pointed by the recent pnblic meeting to inquire into the matter of holding an egglaying competition. The deputation explained it was now proposed to form a utility poultry club, which would find money for building the pens, the prizemoney, etc., and see to receiving the birds and plaoing them in their pens. They desired the college to undertake the manage-, ment and feeding of the birds/ and to keep’' the necessary records. A committee of advice would bo formed from poultry keepers and exhibitors. The proceeds of the eggs wonld go to the college, acsl the pens would become its property. had been proved that such a competition would be run at a profit, and they suggested that this should bs divided between the college and the club. The promoters desired that the competition should bs managed by somebody in whom the competitors and the public had full confidence, and they had that confidence in Mr Lowrio, the director, while Lincoln College was an ideal place for the competition. Mr Hyde, chief Government poultry'*'' expert, was presont, and explained various points of detail, and the chairman, the Hon E. C. J. Stevens, said the board would consider the matter with th* director, who would give the deputation an answer in time for the adjourned public meeting next Thursdby. Tha deputation thanked the board for tne very favorable reception, and before were informed by Mr Lowrie that every effort would be made to arrange for holding the competition on the lines suggested.
