CROWN AWARDS
At tho meeting of the Land Board yesterday the Land Officer reported on the following Crown awards : Ohineuki, 22 acres, on shore of Waipiro Bay, a mile north of Waipiro native township, worth 30s to 40s per acre.—Tbe Board decided not to lease. Totaranui, 2s, 3a, and sa, 175 acres 3 roods, distant from Waipiro 10 miles by dray road and two miles unformed and unsurveyed road. The cost of construction and survey of this road would probably amount to the full value of section. Tho Surveyor suggested that it be offered for grazing lease for 14 years.—Not to be 1G fe Puhunga No. 1, 108 acres 3 roods, eight miles from Tuparoa and 25 to 30 chains from formed dray road, valued at 20s per acre. —No to bo let. _ Ahikouko, No. 2a, 285 acres, situated on sea coast, two miles south of Port Awanui, and cbk-fly good hill country, valued at 40s per acre. —To be offered subject to reserves being made. . . , Ahikouka, No. la, 78 acros.—Not to be lot Ahikouka, 2b, 157 acreß, to oo offered subject to any native right ovor ton acres. Wairoa, No. 2a, 30 acres, 1 rood, 15 porcbos, access by roughly-formed bullock road to the Awanui road, which is distant about 6k mile?.—To bo offered Kuratau, cl, 26 acreß. Tbe Surveyor recommended that it bo sot aside os a scenic reserve on account of its pohutukawa trees, which were very fine. It is two miles from Port Awanui.—To be recommended that it be made a scenic rceerve. _ , To Heronga, 41 acres 2 rood?, two miles ! from Port Awanui, worth 60s per acre flat, and would bo readily taken up if 1 offered,—To be offered at upset of £3 an a °Hercnga, bl, dl, 11,108 acres 2 roods 21 porches, three miles from Port Awanui and fronting Pert Awanui-To Aroroa road, land good quality and all flat ; value, £3 per aC re.—To be put up subject to roSU Hcrengo, al, 15 acres 2 roods, situated on formod and”’adjoios Port Awanui township. Worth 80? per acre, and ehould bo reserved for scenic purpo3e3i —To be recommended as a forest

Value, 80s per acre.—To be held over for *• '•jpjr.es c* n fc. concluding his repoifc, Mr Stephenson said There is a considerable demand for tho small Crown awards, both by Europeans and Maoris, but as tho natives far outnumber tho whitee, to put them up undor Part 111 of the Act would bo to allow them to revert to tbo natives, which I think in the interest of settlement is not desirable. I would therefore recommend that from year to year grazing right be offered for sale undor section 116 of the Lamd Act, 1892.
