MR GEORGE STEPHENSON’S ENGLISH MUSICAL COMEDY COMPANY.
THE ROSE OF THE RIVIERA.
Arrangements have now been completed for the appearance of Mr George Stephenson’s English Musioal Comedy Company at His Majesty’s Theatre on Wednesday next, January 18th. This combination has been touring Australasia with conspicuous success for some months past, and its present season in Auckland, which concludes on Monday evening next, has established a record. The season, whioh is limited to four nights only, will be inaugurated with England’s latest musical success, “Thoßose of the Riviera,” a play whioh has attained enormous popularity in ail Australasia. “ The Rose ” will be presented for one night only, as it is Me Stephenson’s intention to produce as many musical novelties as possible during the present season. Some months ago, Mr Stephenson deputed Mr Edward Lauri to proceed to England and seleot a musioal oompany and plays that would be likely to please the critical Australasian audiences. With what measure of sucoess Mr. Lauri carried out his task may be judged from the popularity the oompany achieved in Australia. Miss May Beatty and Mr Edward Lauri are already well known in Gisborne. Miss Beattie has, according to reports, delighted her most oaptious oritios in the parts allotted to her. Most of the members of the oompany have graduated from Mr George Edwarde’s English companies, and inoiade amongst others Misses May Garstang, Aliee Nixon and Ada Page, Messrs Charles MnNaughton, Fred Twitohem,Oharles and Will Bovis, and Roy Sidney. A chorus fifty strong is associated with the combination. On Thursday, January 19ch, “The Skirt Dancer’ 1 will be staged, and on Friday, January 20tb, "The Dandy Dootor” will be presented. For the final night of the season a grand double bill has been arranged. The plans for the entire season will be opened by Mr Miller at His Majesty’s to-morrow, Friday morning, at 9 o’clock, when seats will be allotted by ballot. Patrons reserving for the season will be given precedence. For some days past Mr Miller has been simply inundated with enquiries for seats and it is almost a safe proposition that a large sale of seats will result on the opening of plans to-morrow morning.
