.(Per Press Association.) New Plymouth, last night, The Taranaki tennis championship continued to-day. In the men’s singles (final) Parker beat Dickie, 6—l, 6—4. Men’s championship doubles : C. J. Dickie and A. J. Wallace beat Parker and Tuke, 7 —5, 6 —3. Men’s handioap doubles : Miss Nunnelly and Balharry in the second round beat Miss Koch and H. D. Oaplen. In the men’s championship doubles play was very interesting. In the singles Parker had a very easy victory over Dickie. Great interest is being evinoed in the meeting this afternoon of Misses Nunnelly and Powdrell. The weather is fine. The visitors were entertained at a danoe on Saturday evening. The occupants of a privatoiy-ownsd oil launoh had an exciting experience on Sunday. They left the breakwater on a fishing cruise, but when off the town the engine broke down. The launoh drifted, an attempt to anchor her failing. By means of a bucket utilised as a eea-auehor a dangerous reef was oleared, but the sea was too rough to permit landing without oars. All the afternoon the vessel drifted eastward, and about 5 o’olook she was driven ashore on a sandy beach near WaiWakaiho river. Two of thß ocoupants— Avery and Humphries—narrowly escaped drowning, being rescued with some difficulty. The launoh was badly damaged. It lies on a reef and will probably break up.

The polios are soouriug the eastern suburbs for a lad named Smith, charged with sheep-stealing. Soveral times they got in close proximity to him, but each time he has beat a masterly retreat. A meeting of shareholders of the Farmers’ Co operative Society confirmed a resolution to go into voluntary liquidation.

The exhibition was well attended on Saturday, among the visitors being the Hon. Mr Mills, Mrs Mills, and family. The .Premier is expected on Thursday, when a military tournament is to be held. On the same day a special train will be run from Wanganui. On Saturday Mr Mills will be entertained at lunch in the exhibition buildiDgs, and presented by the Natives with several gifts of historic value. The Minister expressed surprise at the size and excellence of the exhibition.
