EIRE AT OAMARU.
MAN BURNED TO DEATH.
(Per Press Association.) Oamaru, Saturday.
A fatal fire ocourred at 8 o’clock this morning, George Leslie, a tobacconist, met bis death. An outbreak ocourred in Leslie’s shop, and spread to the adjoining premises of Pox (bootmaker), Miss Brown (art repository), and Mins Falconer (dressmaker). The upper portions of the shops were destroyed and the stock damaged by fire and water.' The insurances are : Leslie’s stook and furniture £250 in the New Zealand, and it is believed an additional £IOO in tbe Viotoria; Fox, stook £6OO in tbe South British; Brown, stook £BSO in the National. Falconer's stook and plant were uninsured. The buildings, owned by J. Hill", were insnred in the New Zealand for £6OO. It. is supposed that Leslie overturned a candle and set fire to his bed clothes. He was found lying on the floor, evidently eufiooated whilst endeavoring to reach the door.
