BAILWAY WORK.
A CELEBRATION.
(Per Pres# Association.) Stratford, last night. The first aod of the Mount Bgmont branob of the railway was turned at Waipuku to-day by Mr W. T. Jennings, jyt,p t B. t iu tUo presence of about -SUU PB Messrs C. B. Major and W. Byrnes, H.U.K.'s, the Mayors of Stratford and Hawera, the Chairm-u of the Stratford Counly Councils and. Normandy Town Board, gave addresses. Five thousand pounds has been placed on the estimates for the work, which will coat about£so,COO. The line will run to atone deposits on the mountain sufficient to supply the whole of Taranaki, and will probably be nsed for tourist traffic and local exonrsions. A banquet was held after the ceremony in Stratford. ■
