ADDINGTON MARKET.
AN EXCEPTIONALLY SLACK MARKET.
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. There was a large yarding of stock at the Addington saloyards to-day, and a good attendance of buyers. Fat cattle : A large entry, numbering 290 head, were submitted, and tho oversupply reeulted in a very marked reduction in prices, beef selling from 20s to 24s per lOOlbs, which is much the lowest market rate that has ruled for a considerable period. Fifteen heifers from H. D. Buchanan’s Kinloch estate brought from £6 7s 6d to £8 dOs. From R. H. Rhodes, Meadowbank, 8 steers realised from £lO 15s to £lO 17s 6d. From Highfield eßtate 16 steers sold at from £8 12s 6d to £lO 4s, and spayed cows at from £6 5s to £9 os. From Hay, Pigeon Bay, 14 heifers brought from £6 15s to £7 13s 61. Other steers realised £6 15s to £ll 2s 61, heifers £5 10s to £B, cows £5 12s to £7 10s. Store sheep : Seven thousand three hundred and eighty-eight were entered, a much larger number than had been on hand for some time, the yarding including several lines from the North Island. The dry weather made buyers chary of operating, and the demand was so slack that the bulk of the entry passed unsold. The chief sales vvero—Ewes : 50 at 15s lid, 99 at 15s 7d, 132 at 12s lOd ; wethere : 112 at 15s sd, 213 at 12s 9d, 356 at 12s 4d ; ewes and lambs : 189 at 8s lid.
Eat lambs : The yarding totalled about 2880, including a fair proportion of prime quality. Butchers competed keenly with tho freezing buyers for Christmas requirements, and prices were in consequence firm. The range of prices was—Freezers, 13s to 16s 6d ; tegs, to 18s 4d ; butchers, 11a 6d to 18s 3d ; grazers, 7s 6d to 11s 61.
Pigs : There was a small yarding of pigs, with an improved demand for porkers and young stores. Baconers brought from 33s to 50s, equal to 44d per lb ; porkers 30s to 365, equal to 5d per ib ; large stores, 25s to 32s ; medium 22s to 24s ; weaners, 12s to 17e.
