Abraham, President o£ the Manawatu Racing Club, has donated a valuable silver cup to he presented to the winner of the Avvapuni Handicap,, the first race to ae run on the Club’s new. course on Boxing Dav. CHRISTCHURCH, last night. Mr J. K., Charlton, Government veterinarian! states that pinx-cyc,. which it is reported has appeared among horses here, is the same disease as influenza, and is of a benign type. He states that in countries where it lias been- prevalent, as in Prussia and Copenhagen, the mortality has been very light. As to the treatment, he ehtnks that the disease in most cases should be allowed to run its course without medical interference. The annual meeting of the Royal Humane Society of New' Zealand washeld to-day. The directors reported that 20 awards had been made throughout the colony. Comment was made on the fact that of the total subscriptions of £92, £75 came from Canterbury, £ll from Auckland, and £5 from Napier, the other districts, although they received awards, contributing nothing. Suggestions were made to the new directors as to the means of increasing public interest in tho Society. Sir John Hall was re-elected President.
