Ia the Victorian Legislative Council a motion has been moved by Mr Dowling in favor of a surplus wealth tax. He estimates that there would be £25,000 000 worth of property in Victoria subject to the tar, of which £2,750,000 would be land value.
Recently Mr John Carrick, of Otautan, 1 consigned to a Northern buyer 30 trucks r of stock, making one of the finest lines that has yet left Southland; and a fine .line of 170 cattle left the farm of Messrs P. Deegan and Sons, Dipton, during the week.
The Victorian Government haß introduced a Bill to amend th& Juries Act, providing for a reduction of jurymen’s fees from 7s to 5s per day. Two large parties of residents of this city (says the Christchurch Press) intend leaving shortly for Milford Sound, and will go by the overland route.
A number of spurious half-crowns have been in circulation at Broken Hill, They are clever imitations. J
