ALLEGED SLY GROG-SELLING.
FREE BEER FOR ALL WHO AP- ' PLIED.
(Per Press Association^' DUNEDIN, last night. At Kaitangata to-day, David Jones and Catherine Jones were charged with selling liquor without a license, As the result o! the local option poll last year no licenses] were granted in the district., The cases broke down, as witnesses could not remember the datcs-Jbexcept in the ease of one witness, arid he denied that money had passed A When the raid was made, a ten-gallon kee of beer, half full, was found on the premises.
In the first, case, Mr.. Cruickshank, •■vM., said that in face of the evidence, the case must he dismissed In the second charge, after hearing some evidence, the Crown Prosecutor said that it was obvious it was not- worth while pursuing the cases., The Magistrate said it was not for mm to make any comment, but it seemed apparent that .Jones was Keeping a show where he supplied ucer free to anyone who liked to anply for it. Six other informations were ihen abandoned.
