FEDERAL ELECTIONS.

Fine weather favored tho elections, and polling commenced early in tho day, and went on steadily throughout tho day till 7 o'clock. The proceedings wore generally quiet, and thero was little excitement. Tho vote is expected to bo a very heavy one in tho city ana suburbs. Women nvailed themsolves largely of tho first opportunity of recording their votes, much more largely than was anticipated. Tho referendum on the reduction of members in tho local Assembly complicated affairs somewhat as far as IJow South Walos was. concerned, and although the result thereof will not ba mado known until tho 28th, it holped to delay the roturns, which Will be later than usual. Arrangements were mado to cease counting at midnight, so that probably little more than tho city and suburban results will be known to night. It will bo days beforo all tho country and Senate returns nvo completed.
