At the time of (he Kembla disaster, Mr Knowles, of the Motor Power Company, offered a number of motor-cars for disposal at an art anion to assist the fund. Fortyseven thousand eight hundred and forty-three shilling tickets were sold. The drawing took place at file enii of March under the supervision of a committee, including several members of Parliament, it was then announced that the -SlCOll had been absorbed in expenses. As a result of the failure to hand over anything and the hostile criticism, the members of Parliament who supervised the drawing asked that the Government Auditor investigate and report. This has been done, and as an_ outcome summonses have been issued against J. A. Darly (secretary of of file Art Union), A. J. Knowles, Manager Knowles (of the 3lotor Company), Walter Dcllass, and P. Kalimeyer, all prominently connected with the lottery on a"charge oil conspiracy, to defraud.
