The Thursday competition this year has been very keen, and the Clubs are very evenly matched, Union having a slight advantage through their large membership. We think this Club could enter a seoond team for tho competition, without weakening their side. A team of 15 or 16 oolts under the supervision of Mr Lewis, or some other enterprising Union sup porter, would mako the rounds more interesting.
MATAWHERO \. UNITED.
To-morrow the newly formed Matawhero Club will receive its baptism of fire, a team from the United Club journeying out to engage them in their first match. It is reported that the Matawhero Club include several good players, and will bo. able to put a strong team in the field. A good wicket should be available for *he match, as tho paddooks around Matawhero are as level as a billiard table, and the soil is as rich as that of far famed Bulli. The United leave town by drag at 1.15, and the game starts at 2. The following players will represent United : Dodd, Gibson (2), Gardiner, Hill, Hodge, Kretsehmar, Iveson, Hay (2), Neaie ; emergencies, Nolan and Winter.
