THE OPENING CEREMONY.

{Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. The Veterans’ Home was opened by the Governor to-day in tbe presence of a very large assembly. The proceedings were of an interesting character, including speeches by His Excellency, the Premier, Sir Joseph Ward, the Mayor of Auckland, and Sir W. Russel). The G°' vernor presented war medals to the members of the Bth, 9tb, and 10th' Contingents. The Premier unveiled the tablet 1 erected in the Home as a memorial $o the New Zealanders who fell in the South African war.
