The Bev. Mr Chatterton and Mrs ChatI terton left by the Westralia Jast evening I for Wellington en route for London. I Prior to loaving Lyttelton the staff of I tho Land Transfer Office gave a set of I silver-mounted pipes to Mr W. Johnston, who has been transferred to Gisborne. Tho presentation was made by Mr G. G. I Bridges, District Land Begistrar,. who congratulated Mr Johnston on his promoI tion, and wished him success. A very pretty wedding took place at the Holy Trinity Church yesterday, when Miss Daisy Taylor, daughter of Mr Allan Taylor, was married to Mr John Joseph Pool, son of Mr William Pool. The ceremony was performed by the Bev. W. Welsh. Misses Ada Faram and Isabel Pool were bridesmaids, and tho bridegroom was attended by Mr Bees Jones and Mr Arch. Pool. Mr A. F. I Tho Bishop of Waiapu, who has been I away from Napier for some time on his annual visit to the northern districts of I tho diocese of Waiapu, was to arrive in Napier from Taupo last evening, accompanied by Mr J. N. Williams. I Bishop Welldon, formerly headmaster of Harrow, arrived in Auckland by the Westralia. Mr James Allen, M.H.B. for Bruce, goes Home via Suez on a flying tour of the world. He returns via Vancouver. He will give the different problems close attention during his absence, especially that of the fiscal position of the Empire. Canon Gould, when farewelled at Panmuro by the St. Matthew’s congregation on Thursday last, was presented with a purse of sovereigns, an address from the Sunday school teachors, and mementoes of the pupils of tho school and Bible ciass.
Mr George Humphries, a missionary from India, arrived by the Westralia last evening, and will deliver an address in the Grey stroet hall this evening. Mr W. A. Hamblen, formerly of tho local office of the Union Company, but now of the Dunedin office, is at present on a visit to his old home.
Mrs Bichardson, wife of Councillor E. Bichardson, of the Motu, returned by the Westralia last night after a visit to England. Mr C. Nicholson has been laid up for some days. He sustained a strain when lifting a heavy weight, and thought not feeling it greatly at the time medical attendance was required, Dr Scott being aalled in.
