Russia's silence regarding Japan’s demands explained the fact mentioned by Reutor’s Pekin correspondent that China is negotia'tiDg for an agreement conceding most of Russia's supplementary terms for the so-oalled evacuatioD-of Manchuria. The agreement, while nominally confirming the Chinese sovereignty, gives Russia the advisory share in tho government of Manohuria. , Twvford's Limited and Johnson Bros.; 1 Ltd., two of the largest Staffordshire pottery firms, are opening worksdn Germany. Twyford explains that the firm’s travellers asserted that it was usoless to visit protective countries. By starting protective works in Germany they will bo able to compete with Germany and America, besides shipping to-Englaud. The shipping riug has published a list of 48 refrigeratod und six unrofrigorated steamers available for the Australian cargo service, and announce the despatch of a Bteamer for Melbourne and Sydney every Saturday during January and February, all but two calling at Adolaide.
