TWO UP CASES—JURY DIS-
AGREE,
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night
The Supreme Court was engaged all Friday and Saturday hearing tho charges of having kept a common gaming-house preferred against Chas. (Eager and Frank Sturgeon. The cases were the result, of the recent raid by the police on a “ two-up ” school at the Olymphic Club. The hearing of the evidence and counsel concluded last evening, and at nine o’clock the jury intimated that they Were unable to agree. They were accordingly discharged and the prisoners remanded. 'A SUDDEN DEATH.
James Salmon, aged 58 years, formerly managing clerk for Messrs Chapman and Tripp, barristers, died suddenly last night. On Thursday morning he stated that he had been this is' not thought to be correct, it being surmised that an injury he reassatilted on the previous night, but ecived on the head was caused by falling down while under the influence of liquor.
WILD BULLOCK IN CITY.
.While a number of fat cattle were being shipped at Glasgow wharf on Saturday evening, two bullocks jumped into the sea, and swimming along the water frontage ell'ceted a landing at Pipitea Point, Thorndon. One of the beasts was shot just on coming out of the water, but the other bolted into the city. It sped furiously along Lambton Quay, people scattering in all directions, and two being conveyed to the hospital in consequence of being thrown over by the beast. Its career was stopped in Lower Manners street by a rifle bullet.
A FATALITY
At the inquest on the body of Thomas McNab, who was picked up dead after alighting from a iramI'hx on Thursday night, the evidence showed that death did not result from injury to the head, as was at first supposed, hue to rupture of the hydatial cyst and escape of blood into the abdominal cavity.
