Another case of anthrax is reported at Pukckohe, a beast on Mr Lutimar’s farm having died from that disease. Recently pathological specimens sent to the Chief Veterinary Burgeon, reveals tho presence of anthrax bacilli.

WANGANUI, last night.

Tho Agricultural Association’s _ Show was continued to-day. Heavy rain fail last night and this morning, though the weather cloared .shortly beforo noon. The ground 'was damp under foot, and this rendered thiugs-uncomfortable. The at tendance, notwithstanding, is very large. Competitions are proceeding.

Another destructive lire occurred this morning when the Custom-house hotel and Union Company’s new offices at the Port wore destroyed, and the post office and other buildings had a narrow escape. Only five persons wero sleeping in the hotel, where the fire originated, Frank Dakin, the landlord,'and his wife, and infant, a boy, and a boardor named Bridle. Dakin was awakened by smoke, aroused the household, and all had to jump from the upstairs window', escaping in their night clothes, the infant being thrown to the boy, Dakin wasgauicb cut and bruised. Mrs Dakin was considerably shaken from tho jump, and the boy 7 was also slightly bruised, but the infant and hoarder were unhurt. The Dakins saved nothing and lost *BO in cash. Bridle saved his effects except a bicycle. Akoretcn’s store opposite had a narrow escape, and was for a time in considerable danger. Alrorsten, who is an old man and bedridden, was removed with considerable difficulty. A kerosene store in the vicinity was saved after continued efforts of tho brigade in fighting the encroachment of -the ilames. The Union Company’s offices were insured in the Victoria and the hotel in the Standard offices. . In the Supreme Court Henry Brewer ploaded guilty to stealing 40oz of gold from his employers, theParapara Hydraulic Sluicing Company, Collingwood. He was granted probation for 12 months on payment of costs, £ls.
