DEATH OF REV; FATHER PUBTON. .(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. The Bev. Father Wm. Benedict Purton, 0.5.8., died this morning alter a protracted illness at the age of 69. About three months ago he contraete'd influenza, which developed into bronchitis, ,-paralysis subsequently setting in and affecting his brain.
FIBE THROUGH LAME. EXPLOSION.
News has been received of the destruction by fire of a house at Kaitara, occupied and owned by Thomas Watts. - The insurance on the house and furniture amounted to £250. A hook by which the lamp was suspended burnt out, and the lamp fell to the ground and exploded,- the oil catching fire. Very little was saved. The los3 is estimated at £2OO over iusurif auce.
