WAIAPU COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Waiapu County Council was held yesterday afternoon, when the following members were present Crs Sherwood, E. S. Williams, A. R, Williams,' Murphy, Wallis, and Knox. The inward correspondence included a letter from the Surveyor-General re the Hospital site, stating that the matter had been referred to the Inspector-General of Hospitals ; a telegram from the lion. James Carroll, stating that the Hospital Bill had passed through all its stages ; and a communication from the Treasury, notifying that applications for Joans to local bodies would be held in abeyance pending new legislation. The Department of Roads wrote, stating that the road to Puketiti could not be laid off at present, and asking that the matter be brought up in about six months’ time.
The Engineer reported ' that the road machine party was at work on the 111ungia-VVaipiro road. O’Shea and McNamara were employed at scoop and plough work on the different roads in the County. He also repoited that the Awatere loan had been carried, and a poll taken at Kawakawa. He drew attention to tiie way in which bridges were being defaced in the County, and asked for instructions to prosecute offenders. Cr Wallis proposed that tenders be called for building a ferrvman’s house at Puketiti.—Cr A. B.’ williams seconded,—Carried. A petition was read from residents in the northern part of the County, asking that a special district he ere-' ated for the purpose of raising a loan to buiid a bridge over the Waiapu river.—Consideration was deferred until tile new Native Land Act was received.
Accounts amounting to £230 were passed for payment. At the annual meeting, Cr A. B. Williams was elected Chairman for the ensuing year.-
