Warner and Hayward faced Mcßcth and Howell. Runs came slowly, which accounted for excellent bowling length and fielding. Noble replaced Mcßcth at 21, Fisher taking Howell's end. Tho change was effective. Hayward sent Fisher back to him. One for 28.

Tydlesley toilowed. Warner had a couple of lives, a difficult one at Howell’s hands and one at Fisher’s,. both off Noble, the total being 32. The half century occupied an hour and a quarter. Rapid changes wero made in the bowling, but Warner gradually piled up runs, Tyldesiey playing carefully’. A smartly returned bail by C. Gregory knocked Warner’s wicket down. Two for 80.

Foster joined Tyidesley, who made and scored freely. One hundred appeared for a couple of hours’ play, Tyidesley doing the hulk of the run getting, the Lancashire man playing with great confidence. Foster, too, made some very pretty strokes, takiDgbim iuto double figures. Tyidesley passed Warner’s score, and had the bowling tied up. Play was lively at this stage. Tyidesley pasting Howell to the boundary. Foster lashed out at Mcßeth, but touched tho ball, which slid into Howell’s hands in the slips. Three for 162.

Braund filled the vacancy, and helped Tyidesley to play out time, the score when Btumps were drawn being three wickets for 172. The scores were :
